Aluminum Composite Material Panels Add Flair To adidas Village

From the beginning, the vision for adidas Village was innovative: Create a “village” on an 11-acre urban site near downtown Portland, Oregon—a village that “reflects the character of the company and that will be part of the fabric of the community.” A visible accent on this innovation is the Alucobond Plus Material used as exterior panels. Approximately 60,000 sq. ft. of the 4mm material in seven custom colors is featured on the buildings, with rectangular panels oriented vertically and horizontally in a random pattern. More info

Preformed Metal Wall Systems Offer Combination
Of Economy, Service and Design

The Metal Initiative (TMI) discusses the characteristics of preformed metal wall panels that have helped propel them to popularity in mainstream commercial building design. Discussed in the article are exotic metals and protective coatings, low installed cost, and the ability of preformed panels to be installed regardless of weather conditions, environmental benefits and design flexibility. Energy Values For Factory-Engineered Insulated Panels

A Technical Bulletin published by the Metal Construction Association (MCA) discusses the methods by which heat is transferred, and how factory-engineered insulated panels (aka factory-formed metal panels) mitigate it. Topics covered in the bulletin include how insulating value is defined, the typical insulating values of factory-engineered insulated panels, how the insulating value of factory-engineered insulated panels is preserved, and how the insulating value of building panels is determined. Repair Painting Of Prepainted Metallic-Coated Steel Sheet

Coil-coated paint finishes on metallic-coated steel sheet building panels are designed to provide many years of problem-free service, with a minimum amount of maintenance. That is not to say, however, that they won’t eventually change in appearance, perhaps by losing gloss or becoming discolored. If the service environment is more harsh and aggressive than the coating was designed to withstand, deterioration of the paint coating may occur sooner than might normally be expected. But there are solutions. The GalvInfo Center provides suggested guidelines and practices to be followed when it has been decided that prepainted building panels need to be repainted. Discussed are surface preparation and repainting procedures. More info

Preventing Jobsite Storage Corrosion
Of Prepainted Building Panels

The National Coil Coating Association (NCCA) has published a document that outlines best practices for preventing the premature corrosion of metal building roof and wall panels due to improper jobsite handling and storage. Topics covered in the document include environmental and service conditions, prepainted panel properties, panel packaging, receiving, jobsite storage and handling. More info

Standards For Expanded Metal

Expanded metal is sheet or coil metal slit and stretched into a non-raveling unit of uniform-sized, diamond-shaped openings. The Expanded Metal Manufacturers Association (EMMA) division of the National Association of Architectural Metal Manufacturers (NAAMM) has published Standards for Expanded Metal. The standards discuss common terminology, manufacturing techniques and tolerances, specifications for standard products, and some uses for expanded metal. More info
